Portland Waldorf School (PWS) is Oregon’s oldest Waldorf school and the only one serving students from preschool through high school. Rooted in the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, PWS provides a holistic, developmentally appropriate education that nurtures the imagination, cultivates the intellect, and honors the spirit of each child. The school’s collaborative faculty works to educate students for the whole of life, ensuring they develop the creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability needed for college and global citizenship.

The PWS curriculum balances rigorous academics with rich artistic and hands-on learning experiences, providing a well-rounded, immersive education tailored to each student’s age and developmental stage. Rather than focusing on standardized testing, PWS inspires a lifelong love of learning, integrating subjects such as science, math, humanities, and the arts with outdoor education and environmental stewardship. The school’s 7.2-acre campus serves as a living laboratory, where students explore nature, sustainability, and community engagement as part of their daily learning.

Conveniently located in historic downtown Milwaukie, just minutes from Portland, Portland Waldorf School is easily accessible via TriMet’s Orange Line and multiple bus routes. With its richly creative curriculum, deep connection to the land, and a strong sense of community, PWS continues to be a leader in Waldorf education, preparing students to think independently, embrace curiosity, and engage meaningfully with the world.
