The Franciscan Montessori Earth School has been at the forefront of Montessori education since 1977, blending Catholic values with the Montessori philosophy to nurture intellectual curiosity, independence, and a love of learning. As the only accredited Pre-K through 8th grade Catholic Montessori school in the nation, FMES provides a unique educational experience where students engage in self-directed learning within a carefully prepared environment. The school, operated by the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, fosters spiritual growth, respect for the earth, and a strong sense of community.

Each student at FMES follows an individualized curriculum, allowing them to progress at their own pace while mastering key academic concepts through hands-on, experiential learning. The school emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and personal responsibility, preparing students for academic success and lifelong learning. With a sprawling natural campus in Southeast Portland, FMES provides students with ample opportunities to explore nature, develop problem-solving skills, and cultivate a deep respect for the environment.

By integrating Montessori principles, Catholic teachings, and environmental stewardship, the Franciscan Montessori Earth School creates a well-rounded, holistic education that supports students’ intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth. FMES graduates leave with a strong academic foundation, a global perspective, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
