Portland and Vancouver – A tale of two cities
Portland has plenty of variation in housing opportunities. However, attractive homes and communities lie beyond the city limits of Portland. While the city of Portland is a highly desirable place to live, not everyone is looking to live in a large metropolitan city. Vancouver Washington offers bigger homes and more land while still remaining close enough to work within the city. How do you decide which city is best for you? The good thing, whether you choose Portland or Vancouver, you will not be disappointed.
Vancouver, Washington
Vancouver Washington is located across the Columbia River. Albeit a small city, Vancouver has the excitement of a large city with the charm of a small town. Covering just over 51 square miles, the area averages 3,569 people per square mile. Undoubtedly, the 185,000 residents enjoy the northern shores of the Columbia river and rich history of the area.
In addition to the sprawling suburban areas, tall condominium structures were built in Vancouver in the early 2000’s. As a result more people where drawn to the city’s downtown area. Likewise, the city saw a revitalization of the local art scene giving birth to the Vancouver Arts District. Downtown Vancouver is lined with historic and modern buildings and decorated with public art. Similar to Portland’s downtown area, downtown Vancouver is home to popular breweries, vintage boutiques and coffee shops, all within walking distance.
Vancouver’s proximity to Portland has made it a popular place for commuters who seek more affordable housing and small town charm. Choosing between Portland and Vancouver will be a tough choice, good luck!
