Concordia University-Portland was a private Lutheran liberal arts university located in Portland, Oregon. Established in 1905, it aimed to prepare leaders for the transformation of society and welcomed students of all faiths. The university offered 25 undergraduate majors, with business, education, and nursing being among the most popular. Concordia integrated faith into every aspect of learning, service, and life, providing a challenging and supportive environment that emphasized justice, compassion, and moral integrity.
In 2020, after 115 years of operation, Concordia University-Portland announced it would cease operations at the end of the spring semester. The decision was attributed to mounting financial challenges and a changing educational landscape. At the time of its closure, the university served approximately 1,250 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate/professional students.
The closure affected thousands of students and staff, leaving many to seek alternative educational and employment opportunities. The university’s campus, located at 2811 NE Holman St, Portland, OR 97211, has since been acquired by the University of Oregon, which plans to utilize the space for its programs.
